Gnomon December 2006

Here is my entry for the Gnomon Workshop December 2006 image competition. Took me quite a while to understand lighting, composition, texture, shadows, etc. Got to thank Nicolas for the help he rendered to me on Friday. I told him that I wanted to hit the computer with my head and he very calmly reminded me that I need my head... Ha ha ha... well it's been quite a journey of self-discovery through painting in Adobe Photoshop.

Hello! The winter treehouse is on the right side. It is a geometrized form that is abstracted from a typical tree's silhouette. It has a mechanistic look to it so as to contrast with the softer "impressionist" landscapes. There are some strange green lights in the clouds suggesting that some aircraft is hovering in. The wintery dusk as portrayed by the colors of the cumulonimbus clouds. The (3) characters watch the one gliding across to another snowy mountain. Is it an escape prisoner? Is it there leader? I wanted to leave that vague. Hope you enjoyed this!

Hey you gluppers!!! Jawn, nice image!!! Man, I should really pick up a tablet and not just indulge in photography, which I can't do very well in anyways. ;P

It's really encouraging to see you're passionate about all things creative, and that you're excelling in them - keep it up, and may God continue to keep you and Crystal (and Jawn Jr, perhaps??) over the new year!!

Thanks for allowing me to pull a "Me, You and Dupree" over the course of a week - appreciate it.

Hey Jawn... I guess it isn't so much about winning, as it is about actually getting down and dirty with your art materials (Ok, I know a Wacom tablet doesn't actually make your hands dirty, but I'm speaking figuratively. ;))

It's a nice piece anyway, and what's most important is that you've put your new toy to good use and have had fun with it.

Keep on at it! Heheh.

Thanks Hann... We are going to be taking some drawing classes online for the next 6 weeks. Hope to improve. It is fun painting as it shows how fearfully and wonderfully we and the environment have been made. As architects-to-be we get the privilege of participating in this enjoyment of design.
